Get your wallets out; Mary Kelsay (Unangan) of MEKA just opened her brand-new pop-up shop in Seattle, Washington. Mary, the designer and owner of MEKA Clothing, is the first Native American to have a brick-and-mortar store on 5th Avenue, a major shopping and entertainment area of the city.

Mary announced the great news earlier this week. “MEKA is excited to announce our brand new pop-up shop in downtown Seattle,” Mary said. “Discover our latest products and services in person and experience the magic of MEKA like never before. Join us for exclusive offerings and a chance to connect with our vibrant community!”

MEKA just had its grand opening party this past weekend. MEKA welcomed several guests and supporters to gain a first look at her official shop.

The MEKA brand features Native-owned, locally made slow-fashion t-shirts and hoodies for all. Custom garment making is also available. We have worked with and featured MEKA in several official Native Max fashion shows across Indian Country. Click here to see more.

Another Native woman making major business moves is Ruth-Ann Thorn (Payómkawichum/Luiseño). Trailblazing Native businesswoman and gallerist Ruth-Ann Thorn plans to open Native Star Boutique inside the historic Yuma Building in the famous San Diego Gas Lamp District in January. It’s believed she is the first Native American to own property in the posh area.

Native Star Boutique will be home to the finest Indigenous-made creations, including fashion, jewelry, art, and goods. The boutique will join Ruth-Ann’s already growing list of ventures and endeavors – she already owns the Exclusive Collections Gallery on Fifth Avenue.
