Native Excellence: Natives Featured in Major Events, Mainstream Media, & More

Just within the last few weeks, Natives have appeared in various mainstream events, media outlets, and more!

The cast along with co-creator and director of Reservation Dogs took the stage at the Emmys. Sterlin Harjo, D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Lane Factor, and Paulina Alexis presented the award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. This was considered a monumental event as they delivered an impassioned, truthful message to the audience.

We also want to mention we love the Native fashion brought to the Emmys: Devery donned a custom Leslie Hampton gown with Indi City earrings and while Sterlin wore a Kenneth Johnson woodpecker gorget loaned to him by Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby and Paulina Alexis sported jewelry by Autaumbi Metals.


Phoenix-based dance group Indigenous Enterprise, who performed on NBC’s World of Dance, was featured in an article in the New York Times. The article shared the dance group’s upcoming performance called “Indigenous Liberation” at the Joyce Theater in New York City from November 9-14.


Rolling Stone India did a story on Native band Blackbird’s collaboration with Portugal. The Man on a new track called “Backup.”


Native American artists and designers featured in the United States of Fashion, a new book from Vogue and Rizzoli. Some of those featured are Jamie Okuma, Elias Not Afraid, and Ataumbi Metals.
