Aliyah Owasicha (Dinè) is a model who’s worked with Sky Eagle Collection, Thunderbird Supply Company, and SWAIA Fashion Show, to name a few. Currently a film student in college, her goal is to model internationally—specifically in Japan. Owasicha recently appeared in a campaign with Sephora, a multinational personal care and beauty product retailer.
She was selected in a nationwide casting hosted by the beauty giant. “It was very surreal; it felt so momentous because I’ve never been to New York before,” she says of the experience. “I was definitely looking forward to experiencing the different city life.”
Owasicha loved being on the set of the photoshoot. “Everyone treated me so well…my hair was done by an all-Black team, which was amazing,” she explains. “I never had such hair care before; Chuckie Love was amazing and immediately understood my hair texture.”
Owasicha is hopeful her involvement with Sephora’s campaign will increase representation for Natives in beauty. “I want to share my gratitude and happiness through modeling,” she says. “I’m ecstatic to be in these spaces while still learning how to bridge the local designers. I hope to inspire other Native and Black models to keep working on your happiness and growth.”
The photo shoot and experience left Owasicha inspired. “I’d also like to do more beauty and lifestyle photoshoots.”
