Blessed Baby Rattles

Skip the plastic rattle from the discount store and invest in a piece of culture and tradition. Handcrafted by Cree artist Sean “Walking Bear” Mah, this baby rattle is specially made for little hands and curious minds. The reason why Mah began making rattles were for his own children. Over the years he’s made several upgrades, testing designs and durability of the rattles on his own sons. Made in the traditional plains style, the fill inside each rattle is important, magical and soothing with meaningful stones. Rawhide was traditionally used for teething as it gets soft when chewed. Mah adds that rattles are an important protection for babies, which means the rawhide and leather are safe. Even the hard oak handles of the rattles, which are finely sanded, preventing splinters.

The artwork on this rattle depicts the spiritual representation of Grandfather Bear, the visionary, the protector, the messenger, the totem.

Our pick: Premium Grandfather Bear Baby Rattle (Rattle with Soft Deer Hide Handle, White Deer Hide Top, and Sacred Rock Fill), $295, https://www.etsy.com/shop/therattlemaker
