MMIW+ Issue Featured on NBC’s ‘Dateline’

This week, Dateline NBC turned its attention to the MMIW Issue with a one-hour special that featured the case of Carla Yellow Bird.

The MMIW+issue was featured on NBC’s ‘Dateline‘ this week.

“A woman who helps solve cases searches for her missing niece and pushes for change as part of the growing movement to save missing and murdered Indigenous women. Andrea Canning reports Friday, August 27 at 10/9c on NBC.” says the description of the episode. The one-hour special features the case of Carla Yellow Bird, who was murdered in 2016 on the Spirit Lake reservation in North Dakota.

Investigator, MMIW advocate and the victim’s auntie Lissa Yellow Bird searched for answers to who killed Carla, which helped her discover cracks in law enforcement. Eventually, three men were convicted and sentenced for their roles in Carla’s murder.
